Ten Things of Thankful #114

I'm linking up a bit late to the Ten Things of Thankful #114 this week.  I hope everyone has had a good week.  There is value in writing those good things down some place and then returning to read your own comments, whether written in a journal or on a blog.

Here are my Ten Things of Thankful for this past week.

1. The week began with having some friends bring me a bouquet of fresh flowers when they came to visit me.

2.  Being able to figure out how to make some revisions on my blog.  (Still lots more to learn and to do, but it is good to be able to feel I am progressing.)

3.  With the help of my daughter and Google, being able to learn how to alphabetize my blog bookmarks on my Mac.

4.  Seeing two osprey fledge from their nest atop a cell tower near the building where I go  for PT.

5.  Being saved by a cat.  I feel this demands some kind of an explanation.  One late afternoon, as I was on the verge of rounding a sharp corner as I returned home, I had to come to a complete stop to see what direction a yellow cat was going to take.  It was already in the other lane heading the direction of my lane.  As it began to go back to the side from which it came, I notice a spike standing in the grass along side the road.  It was standing so still, it looked like a statue.  If it had not been for the cat, I would not have noticed it.  If it had bounded into the road, there would have been a good chance I could have hit it.  Thanks to the cat, all those "ifs" didn't happen.

6.  Thanks to video streaming, we were able to watch our son attended a special ceremony in Washington DC.

7.  Making real progress in getting stronger as I continue to do physical therapy.

8.  For all the firefighters who have been fighting the fires in the NW and elsewhere for that matter.

9.  Being able to read signs that tell a little bit history.

10.  Being able to enjoy a Scrabble Game with some of my family.  I didn't win, but I tied with a team.  The youngest playing the game came up with some great words, and also got the most points.  Good for her!

And here is something that just made me kind of laugh.  We have been inundated with the worst smoke ever in our state.  The normal blue skies and scenic views of the mountains that we see in the summer were just nonexistent yesterday due to the smoke from all the fires in our state and the neighboring state.  I found it ironic that we would receive a piece of mail from the following charity.  What perfect timing to be considering this.

  2. nice! (the noticing of the seemingly inconsequential things that leads to seeing much more and avoiding a chance negative).
blogs are amazing… for their potential to absorb all available time and their incredible capacity for providing entertainment.

    1. Yes, so I've noticed that blogging can take up a lot of time. I'm trying to learn the balancing game here.

  5. I love the cat story. I love you can trace back a bunch of events, add some what ifs and be thankful. I think about that sometimes when I'm stuck in traffic and wonder as much as the traffic is annoying me and holding my time, maybe it's preventing me from some major disaster. Have a good week. Glad you're getting better and hopefully the fires will be under control soon.

    1. I have certainly wondered about that cat, because it isn't one I've seen before or since. Your second comment is one I have often had too. The smoke haze is no longer over our valley. Yeah. I'm not sure if all the fires are out though, but the direction of the wind is now different.

  6. Okay, so I am not progressing with my blogging skills as quickly as I would like, but I have figured out how to comment on other types of logs, as I didn't know how before, so that is something. Good for you for teaching yourself and having the ptience.
    :-)
Love that a cat saved you from further problems. Hope all the fires let up soon. I live in Ontario, but I hear about how bad it is out west, in Canada and the US.

    1. I am still learning how to do the comments too. It took me a while to discover that on some sites, there is just a little symbol to click that allows you to see the comments of others and to add your own comment. Sometimes it seems there is a lot of trial and error to this learning curve.

I've never been to Ontario, but some of my family has visited there and have enjoyed the sites.
