The blog hop this post will be linked to is 100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups - Week 162. The prompt for this post is "Memories of a childhood story or song."
The song Mairzy Doats is a peppy, cute little song written by Milton Drake in 1943 and which became popular in 1944. I remember my Mom singing this when I was young. Of course I didn't know the real words until much later. This ditty like so many others resurfaced from time to time. Some people may not realize its early origin nor that it was based on an old English nursery rhyme. Does anyone else remember singing "Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey, A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you?" It is a funny, musical tongue twister.
I am not familiar with Mairzy Doats but love the diddly littly rhyminess of it!
ReplyDeleteIt is one of those songs that is almost impossible to sing without smiling!
