Six Sentence Stories: Very sweet fall

Today I will be posting again to Six Sentence Stories.  The word prompt this time is "fall."

Back in the day when we consumed a large amount of honey, both in baking and in  spreading it on peanut butter and honey sandwiches, or on toast, I kept large jars of honey in the house.

One day a glass container of honey was sitting on top of our portable dishwasher.

Our always hungry little boy came into the kitchen while my back was turned.  He could barely reach the top the portable dishwasher where the honey was, but he apparently was determined to get it.

I turned around at the sound  of a crash, and saw honey seeping over the floor and spreading around the multiple pieces of glass.

The next thing to do was to yell for an older sister to entertain her little brother while I attempted to try not to get too sticky as I cleaned up the mess from this very sweet fall!

    1. You haven't heard of PB and honey? Don't worry--I was an adult before I learned about fluffernutter sandwiches. Must be the difference between west and east.

    2. When I was eight years old I began picking strawberries and blackberries during summer vacation to earn money. That was back when it was okay to hire young kids to do those things. My mother packed peanut butter and jelly sandwiches almost every day for me to take with me to the fields. I grew very tired of them and didn't care much for peanut butter for many years. I don't remember when I learned about combining peanut butter and honey sandwiches, but it may be when I was an adult. We always had an an abundance of jam when I was young, but not much honey. (BTW-I liked being able to earn money. The following year I used my earnings to pay for my piano lessons.)

    3. yup we grew up on fluffernutters...my dad took them to work! I told my kiddo about this last night. He and his wife were going to try it later on! I will let you know! We were hired young too but we had to get a working card if you were under 16. I got one at 14 but I used to go pick cucumbers at 10.

  4. What a mess to clean up! I dropped my flour canister onto the floor upside down this morning. It had 5 lbs of flour in it, but fortunately, the lid loosened but didn't completely come off, so I only lost about a cup of flour onto the floor. Still hard to clean up, though!

    1. That is so true. If you miss just one little spot, it instantly attracts any dirt, and gets on the bottom of your shoes or your little ones' clothes.

  7. so the question is, what do you use to clean this kind of thing? a spatula? (that would have been my choice) a sponge would seemingly be too small and limited… lots and lots of paper towels I guess would have been best!

    1. That happened so long ago, I don't remember what I used. I suspect I used a wet rag and just kept rinsing it out numerous times. The final thing to do was to mop the floor with some kind of cleaner. At that time I don't thing we used paper towels in our house. I think they were available, but were not nearly as strong as they are now. We were also saving pennies wherever we could, so paper towels were one of those extras.
