Six Sentence Stories - Tear

With motherhood comes many teaching moments, but sometimes it is child teaching mother.  I'm sharing one of those moments here on my post I'm linking up to the blog hop at Ivy's Six Sentence Stories - Tear.  The post must be written in only six sentences using the prompt tear.

Singing and trying to rock her baby to sleep was her common practice, although usually futile at this point in time.

Although many little ones that age took long naps, her children must have felt a need to get on with the living and the learning.  This, her second child, had very early language development, and although she about 18 months old, she'd started speaking in short sentences before she was a year old.

Her daughter gazed intently at her as she listened to the words of My Grandfather's Clock being sung.  Then came the chorus and tears began slipping down her daughter's cheeks.

From that time on, during those early childhood years, she wasn't able to sing that old refrain to her, because of the reaction the chorus brought each time it was sung.

  5. Oh, Pat, I remember that song so well. It's a very sad song. Music touches emotional places in the brain. A lovely story.

    1. I read that some of the children's toys had that melody on them, although our children didn't have the toys that did.

  6. I remember one of my uncles singing this at family gatherings when I was a littly. No tears from me though I must have been made of sterner stuff, I just wondered how the clock knew!
