Finish the Sentence Friday: Listicle - 10 things I don't like or wish I could change

There are four (or five, if there are five Fridays) writing challenges each month for the Finish the Sentence Friday blog hop hosted by Kristi Campbell of Finding Ninee and co-hosted by Kenya G. Johnson of Sporadically Yours. This second Friday is a listicle where we are given the challenge to list 10 things, exactly what is given to us a few days before we post and link up. Some bloggers may this time refer to 10 things that they hate more than anything. Others may list items they don't like, or things they wish they could change. Click the link to see what bloggers are writing about this week.  Finish the Sentence Friday: Listicle - 10 things I don't like or wish I could change

I do not like

1. Hard rock music and heavy metal music

2. Riding on roller coasters

3. Ferris wheels stops when people are being unloaded and you are in a seat at the top or near the top

4. Hot temperatures, i.e. above 90ยบ F, nor heat combined with high humidity, nor very cold weather accompanied by wind chill that makes it seem much colder

5. Such fine print on labels that it makes it impossible to read unless one uses a magnifying glass

6. Very loud previews of movies in theaters and very loud commercials on TV, i.e. louder than the full length movie that follows the previews, and louder than the scheduled show that follows the commercials

7. The smell of eucalyptus, although I am told the oil is used for aromatherapy

8. Seeing the consequences that addictions have on families and in turn on society

9. Violence and war although I realize that because of man's inhumanity against man and unwillingness to cease, violence and war becomes the vehicle to protect and defend

Fallen military remembered by their boots displayed on Ford Island, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii

10.I prefer Red Vines to Twizzlers' strawberry or cherry flavored candy (Note: Some people really don't like the taste of cilantro because for them it tastes like soap.  I don't have quite as drastic a reaction to eating Twizzlers, but it does make me feel a teensy bit nauseated.)

  1. I thought I was the only one with the ferris wheel one. But one of my true pet peeves and why I still to this day won't go back on one was that I did get stuck at the top as a kid. Still remember it and couldn't get me back on if you tried because of it!

    1. Unfortunately childhood fears sometimes can last a long time, but I really understand.

  2. #4 - I live there! :-( Our heat and humidity is so awful I TRY not to complain about the winter. Because of the year 'round humidity, when it's cold it seems colder than it actually is - a damp that seeps right into the bones and nooks and crannies of the house. I do love the smell of Eucalyptus. I wonder if that's one of those things that smell different to people like Cilantro tastes.

    1. We have high humidity in the winter. Some think it is bad here in the summer, but it isn't anywhere near what some areas experience in the summer in combination with the high temperatures.
It could be that Eucalyptus has a different smell to some people. I listened to a podcast recently and a husband and wife didn't realize that they each thought their sofa was a different color. They'd been married quite a few years before learning that they each saw the sofa as a different color. One saw it as green and the other thought it was gray.

  3. My dad says cilantro tastes like soap and it wasn't until then that I realized other people experience different flavors differently. The book photo is powerful. Oh how one day I wish we're all kinder to one another. Sigh. I do love some heavy metal music. I find it energizing but so much of it's bad that I can understand why people don't like it. The good is good (to me) though. I hope that one day we find a way to better help people with addictions too. It really does mess up everybody around the person with the struggle. So glad you linked up.

    1. When we saw the display of the boots, it was very impactful. We walked around and read some of the messages that family members wrote about their loved ones. These boots represented all the military members who had died since 9/11. I can't remember the exact number, but it was in the thousands.
We all need music that energizes us. I'm glad you have found some that does that for you.

  4. Roller coaster and stopping on the top of the Ferris wheel - I can't. I am not longer "one with the heat" and I have to stash reading glasses in every corner of the house (and some labels, I still can't make out). Commercials that are louder than the show are very annoying, especially if I am watching late at night. We should not have to keep adjusting the volume.

    1. I agree that we shouldn't have to adjust the volume every time a commercial is airing, and I wish that we had a remote in the theater to turn down the volume of the previews some of the movies.

  5. I wrote about cilantro!

So the roller coasters thing. I went on my FIRST one last year at 36. Now I'm a bit obsessed with them, but ONLY the family friendly ones. I won't go upside down.

    1. When I was reading your post, I saw that you had mentioned cilantro too.
You are braver than I am when it comes to roller coasters. Now at Disneyland where some of the rides are inside dark places and I am zipping around curves and going up and down tracks, I have no problem, because I can't see the ground and so it doesn't seem scary to me.

  6. Ferris Wheels and fine print.
    I have adapted to both.
    a) Ferris Wheels: I don't go on them. done. lol should all items be so simply dealt with..(I love the common response to 'No thanks, I don't like heights.' "But its safe! And you can see so far" (really? and that view is accomplished how?)
2)Fine print! Arg. Although I enjoy my own work around (in the sense of using the available tools....) I go immediately to my phone (which I seem to always have with me) and a quick zoom on the camera...viola!)

The rest of the items I totally love heat and loud music.

    1. I like your work arounds.
I haven't been on a ferris wheels in years and have no plan to go on one.
I remember my grandmother always using a big magnifying glass to read the newspaper. She showed me the way. LOL

  7. I can't see any print anymore and I can't see down to the ground, no matter how high I am.

    :-)

    Finding silver linings.

I am more sensitive to loud things now though and some of those carnival rides, I loved as a child, I tried again with family last year and couldn't get my footing once I was back on solid ground. My niece loves them and that used to be me.

Strange how some things we hate all our lives and other things, other ones, they can change.

    I like your number ten.

    1. It is amazing to me how much our stability relies on our ability to see. That is one reason as people get older and they may not have as good of balance, it is suggested that hallways and rooms have nightlights or lamps turned on. You are young, but I wonder with your lack of sight, if it affects your balance. I can understand being a little dizzy after getting off a carnival ride.
Do you like Red Vines or Twizzlers, or both?
