Ten Things of Thankful

One can hardly keep abreast of all the latest announcements concerning COVID-19 because they are being updated so frequently. As for myself, I have to limit my listening and watching in order to maintain a degree of normality in my life, but even at that I feel I owe it to myself and my family to be acutely aware of what is going on.

Today as I thought about my week I realized that there are still things for which I am thankful, in spite of it all. I'm linking my post to the Ten Things of Thankful blog hop hosted by Kristi of Thankful Me.

1. Flowers blooming

2. Being able to do a little weeding, but doing it after warming up with some exercise so as not to put my muscles into shock after so little of that type of exertion

3. Having some basic food on hand in order to make simple meals of beans and rice or a pot of stew, dishes that will last more than one meal

4. Being able to complete the simple 2020 census online

5. Drive-up pharmacies where I don't have to go inside the store and possibly be inadvertently exposed to a carrier of COVID-19

6. For Vic and I both feeling well

7. Old papers which I had saved such as one I had on a bulletin board in our dining room when our children were young

8. Space within our home and the space that living in the country allows (I can only imagine how difficult it must for families to shelter in place in small living quarters and maintain a distance of six feet away from one another

9. Online greeting cards (A friend sent me one today in an email, just because.)

10. For all those who have jobs that place them among the public and those who are sick, often jeopardizing their own health in the process and possibly their own families should they become ill

  1. Oh, Mom, one thing that I love about you is that you are a rule-follower. That being said, go give Dad a hug. I don't believe the 6-foot rule is meant to apply to healthy individuals who live in the same house. You will still be safe, and hugs go a long way to making this whole situation easier. :-)

    1. Well, you are right about me being a rule follower, but in this case he initiated it and I agreed with him. That being said, since we still share the same bed eight hours at night life is good. :-)

  2. Goof thought on warming up for yardwork. I did some raking (on either side of the driveway, got away with only minor aches and no pains.*
I'm with you on the limiting exposure the 'news'. I've been practicing 'controlled news reading' for a number of years and it has served me well these last couple of weeks. (Official announcements are the closest things to useful information and they take as long as it takes to read a newspaper article. Unfortunately, the shows are on 24 hours a day. There's a reasonable chance that they don't spend all that time relaying new or useful information.)
Have as good a week as possible.

    * when it comes to exercise and physical exertion, a world of difference between the two. lol

    1. Minor aches and no pains is a good goal. Oh, so true that there is a world of difference between exercise and physical exertion!

  4. Your flowers make me happy, Pat! I particularly love daffodils. My favorite.
I struggle with the physical contact thing right now. I'm with Kristi on the point that it is not directed toward healthy folks locked in together. But. What if one was carrying it and was unaware? So I'm torn between wanting to grab my kid and lavish all the extra hugs and snuggles she wants. But at other moments, I don't want to touch or be touched by anyone. Fear? Very likely. Hard to say.
