No one could accuse him of being yellow, even though he really was.
He had hidden underground with others of his kind until he became mature enough to venture out in the summer and test his mettle in the heat of the day.
The queens hadn't exactly kicked them out of the colony, and even came with them for a while.
One thing was quite unexpected, but he should have noticed the signs.
Occasionally he had noticed one of the colony had succumbed on the ground below.
It was strange how the males had fallen to their deaths, while other workers died, it wasn't like this.
All play and no work gets them in the end. Clever six.
ReplyDeleteLOL! Thanks.
DeleteWell put together and very clever. Great six.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Paul.
DeleteMy husband has considered raising bees. This story is interesting in its perspective, as is the "secret life of bees".
ReplyDeleteWe know people who raise bees, and enjoy doing it. I'm sure the honey is a reward.
DeleteI have learned to very quickly distinguish the difference between bees and yellow jackets. If one leaves bees alone, they leave you alone, but yellow jackets are out to get you! Also a single yellow jacket can sting a person multiple times, rather than just once like a bee does. This year there is a bumper crop of yellow jackets in our parts.
I need to read the Secret Life of Bees.
lol*
ReplyDelete(On a personal note, we haven't experienced significant bee populations in quite a while. This, while quite local, is surely more ominous than we might realize).
* compliment at a very cool Six.
Thanks.
DeleteWe have some wall germander planted in various places, and the honey bees and the bumble bees love it. They pretty much leave you alone. However the yellow jackets think the whole property belongs to them. They are very aggressive little critters and can sting a person multiple times unlike the bees who can only sting once.
Our state experienced a significant bee loss a few years back due to pesticide that some applicators had used.
Yes, it’s odd how we sometimes don’t see evidence right in front of us. Good six.
ReplyDeleteThat is so true.
DeleteBees have quite an organized society. Brutal in some respects but effective. They have an incredibly significant impact on nature.
ReplyDeleteGood 6!
Thanks for the bees! We really do need them. Without them there are many foods we wouldn't be able to enjoy.
DeleteI'm not so fond of the yellow jackets, but in reading about them, I learned that even they serve a great purpose. I just wish that they were not so aggressive around people!
I know what you mean about the yellow jackets. I never minded bumble bees when I was a kid but yellow jackets I totally steered clear of!
