Ten Things of Thankful

Although I wasn't one of the very first bloggers to participate in the Ten Things of Thankful blog hop at its onset, thanks to my daughter, Kristi of Thankful Me, the current host of this blog hop, I was gathered in, so to speak, back in June of 2015. I dipped my toes into blogging beginning in 2011 for a few months before life got crazy for me and I dropped out. My daughter's encouragement was contagious and I started in again in June 2015. Lizzi Lewis, of Considerings, was the host of the TToT blog hop then, and she and other bloggers were so welcoming of my participation, especially given the fact I was most likely many years their senior. I have found this blog hop group to be such a welcoming and encouraging circle of individuals coming from all walks of life. I am linking up for Ten Things of Thankful's Sixth Anniversary!

Welcome back to all who are here for this special weekend of giving thanks, and a hearty welcome to all the newcomers!

1. For our Internet service that is finally up and running again

2. For the hazardous materials facility where I was able to drop off some things that I couldn’t put in the trash, recycle or in some other way repurpose

My husband did this Russian
embroidery recycling logo on his shirt
years ago when he was very involved in
promoting the concept of recycling.

3. For the samples of paint to try out on the new siding on our house

Versatile Gray, Heron Plume, and
Swing Brown paint chips

4. For that smell that warns you of impending lightning and thunder storms

5. For getting lots of steps in every day this past week

6. For the astounding ways that all living things are able to function

7. For possibilities to see things differently and to do things differently

Two kinds of barberry plants.
The plant with the red tinged
leaves gets quite large, while
the one with the bright yellow
leaves is diminutive by
comparison.

8. For dinners out and ways to take home the leftovers

9. For family and being able to see a bit of oneself in them and a bit your ancestors in you

10. For the blessings that come from being able to forgive

  1. I'm excited to know which paint color you will choose. I'm glad your internet is up and running again, and you could join us at this TToT party!

    1. The guys are coming Monday afternoon to do the power wash to remove any of the grit the sawing of the Hardy board so that it is ready to paint. I just hope I can get some of the sample paint on later today, IF the sun decides to shine instead of the rain that has been happening. I'm pretty sure the Versatile Gray is going to be the main color. The others will be trim and door.

    2. Oh, nice! Light trim, dark door, or vice versa? Versatile Gray would be my first pick for the main color, too.

    3. I think light trim and dark door. I was able to paint a couple of boards in the Versatile Gray this afternoon in an area that was partly in the sun and partly in the shade at the time. We like it. I decided not to try the other two since the chips say they are the complementary colors.

  2. The Russian recycling logo your husband did is beautiful and I just love your number nine. I agree with you and Kristi about Versatile Gray (with light trim and dark door).

    1. My husband did some amazing Russian embroidery projects. He had the ability to focus on the tiny detail work that was required and didn't seem to mind if the project wasn't finished in a day or two in his spare time. Tiny detail work has never been by forte, and I like to put concentrated effort into getting a job done as quickly as possible.

      Versatile Gray it is!

    2. I also vote versatile gray. Because it's, well, versatile....

  3. (New computer, unpredictable behavior when commenting).
No internet... must have been informatively frustrating.
Total fan of Number 7. (The fact of being aware of perspective(s) is in and of itself an astonishingly powerful and beneficial quality to possess).

    Versatile Gray!! Versatile Gray!*

    *there's a shocker lol

    1. Yes, it was quite "informatively frustrating" not having access to the computer during that time.

Glad you appreciate #7. Sometimes I have to work at that one a little harder than at other times when it comes to myself, but when I do, I feel quite a feeling of accomplishment and enlightenment.

I never realized how many shades of gray there are until I started looking at paint chips. LOL

  4. I hope your internet service wasn't down too long! Having said that, I suppose we all could probably use a little bit of "forced time out" from the internet, lol.
#4 very cool. Just as there is a certain smell before impending snow. Nature is most wondrous and mysterious :)
Congratulations on the steps! It's all about movement as we age, no? Keep up the good work!
    Amen to #7.

    1. We didn't have internet service for close to a week. In a lot of ways it was quite freeing, but I did miss not being able to use Google to find an answer I was seeking.

We don't have enough snow here that I have ever associated a certain smell with it. Now I am really curious what that smell is.

The increase of steps has come with the increase of physical labor here around home, and the fact that I have been able to physically do more is a blessing.

What a boring world this would be if we all did things exacting the same.

    1. As the header on my blog says, there is "a season and a time." One cannot do all things all the time. I think we know when it is time to devote more time to something else for a while. Glad you popped in.

  6. I misread your #5 as SLEEPS, which is also an excellent thing to get lots of!! Steps is awesome too though, of course!
So glad Kristi's enthusiasm wore off on you - isn't it fabulous how long it's all been going! I'm so thankful to her for carrying it on.
    Good luck with the painting!

    1. That is so funny. I have done my share of misreading things, even my own post after I have linked up. Then I have to go back in and change or delete a word!

It looks like the painting of the house will be done in another week or two. Yeah.

  7. I can't resist a good paint discussion, so I was reading your conversations above and I also agree with dark door, light trim. I'd love to paint my front door a fun color but my last attempt at sanding and repainting resulted in a new door. So I'll have to settle for painting the mailbox!

    1. Your door painting attempt sounds like it was a little frustrating. I have seen some really cute mailboxes that people have painted. You will have to post a picture if you decide to give it a new coat.

  8. Ahhh, Pat! Your TToT post are always so joyful and speak to my heart. You are a wonderful example of practicing daily gratitude for all things big and small, and it's nice to have someone in my age range with some of the same understandings of life we acquire along the journey! I enjoy the lovely things you share on Facebook too! Number 6 made me smile, I am so often in awe of how wonderfully God has created all living things with the ability to grow and perpetuate, and animals to take care of their own! Nothing warms a heart like watching a four-footed mother cuddle and care for her babies just as we have ours. To understand that all life is scared is the beginning of wisdom. I loved Number 9 too. It does indeed make me smile when I see something of myself or my parents reflected in my children, and realize that I am also a reflection of them and theirs. I also love the carrying on of traditions and expectations of kindness, generosity, and integrity. Number 10 was a wonderful way to end this post! Forgiveness is such freedom, and once you have began the practice you realize that it was never really about them, it is something you do for yourself, to free you from hurt, anger, and the desire for retaliation. It fills you with the awareness that we can still love people who may have wronged us, even if sometimes from a distance, and it gives us insight in to just how much God loves us! Blessings to you always dear friend! XO

    1. I had listened to an insightful podcast recently referred to the size of an ant's brain and what feats they could accomplish. It was so fascinating.

We just looked out the window a bit ago and so two does and their spotted fawns running and kicking up their heels all around around our yard. I felt like I was in Bambi land! The fawns were so cute and so little. I would have loved to have taken some photos, but they were so fast and quickly were headed back to the pine trees.

I totally agree with your comments about #10, and forgiveness if such a wonderful gift.

  9. In this world of "My way or the highway" - it's important to think about doing things differently - or thinking differently(#7). Or at least understanding that others do. Your list is so specific and unique - all nice reminders of the dailyness of each of our lives... all the best. xoxox

  10. It feels as though you've been with the TToT since the beginning! I'm glad you joined in. I always enjoy your posts and beautiful photos that accompany them! I love that smell that comes before rain, too. And consistent internet service is not to be taken for granted. And #10 is spot on!

    1. In some ways, it feels that way to me too. . .feeling like I've been with TToT from the beginning. LOL
That smell that comes before the rain would smell really good right now, especially if the temperature dropped a few degrees. Summer showed up good and strong. It was 97 here today.
