She turned off the news and later the same day the computer, refusing to listen or read the bantering between the candidates on the news reports and the statements flying off the cuffs.
Becoming a registered voter had been important to her, but relying on anything other than the voter’s pamphlet and maybe a few flyers that came in the mail from her party of choice seem inconsequential to her.
Right will reign she thought.
Though world history classes were requirements when she was in school, somehow many of the details, if ever absorbed by her mind, had faded with time and weren’t stirring up any concerns until one week before the election.
“How can they do that!” she wondered. After scouring the internet, she found the information answering her question, but now it was too late and she wasn’t going to be able to vote this time.
The heart of the king is in the hand of the Lord. This verse keeps me sane. The ads for our governor's race have been horrific. I can't wait until 11/7. Good post.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is. Keeps me sane too.
DeleteThis was a little different that the path I take to writing my SSS, but I felt a need to write it.
This is very timely as our mailboxes are getting flooded with campaign literature that doesn't really say anything. It also really drives home the point about needing to pay attention and register to vote in time.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ana.
DeleteThere was a time, years ago, when the briefest of exposure to the 'News' on tv and internet would have me walking out the day, the thought "How can they do that' and 'They didn't really say what I heard them say, did they?'.
ReplyDeleteSo I stopped. (Watching, not walking or thinking, lol).

When I try not to think, I remember that is probably what some are hoping for, so I carry on. Thinking and constructively doing something still requires a bit of work in my life. LOL
DeleteGrandpa said, "Register to vote the day you turn 18!" He was right.
ReplyDeleteGrandpa had a good adage there.
DeleteGood 6, Pat. A reminder for sure. While I too once weaned myself of "the news", it seems nowadays I cannot keep a complete blind eye. It's worrisome, our current "state of affairs", current climate of... (fill in the blank). *sigh*
ReplyDeleteI so agree. It is impossible to keep a blind eye now.
