The deer approach most silently and look through the window of our home and show little surprise when we draw near. The solar panels on our hillside, together with the sun's rays, that are the cause of our lower electric bill provide a shelter of sorts for these deer. How nice that we can share the land with them and them with us.
Could it be that the white egret standing tall among a flock of sheep really was hoping to disguise itself among them, though they were not nearly so white? Perhaps not, and maybe the lesson here is to become one with those not quite like ourselves. Savor the diversity.
How is it possible for that red-tailed hawk almost at the top of a tree devoid of leaves to see a creature far below and within seconds be able to snatch it and be sated for a while. Patience and focus bring results.
Sounds of geese flying overhead have such a beckoning call, not just for them, but for me too of the desire to stay close to family, not just in the winter, but always.
Very nice imagery! I like that you used your five minutes to look and listen. It made me feel cozy and relaxed visualizing myself in your five minutes sitting back with a cup of tea.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kenya. If you had been here, I certainly could have served you a cup of tea. I have several different kinds of herbal teas.
DeleteSuch gorgeous writing! I especially love "maybe the lesson here is to become one with those not quite like ourselves. Savor the diversity." The diversity feels so important in life and now and everything. Knowing those who are not quite like ourselves. Beautiful. I'm so glad you joined. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you liked my musings. I enjoyed this particular challenge.
DeleteAnimals in winter is the most lovely of things. I often wonder how they manage, but everything in winter seems so still and peaceful, though colder.
ReplyDeleteDiversity is everything.
I agree Kerry.
DeleteSeeing animals in the snow in the winter is especially a beautiful sight, but we've not had any snow at our house so far this month, so I am content to watch them in the sunshine or in the rain. :-)
Oh my yes. A still life. A moment. I love this with all my heart.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you enjoy reading about my still moments and musings.
Deletevery enjoyable FTSF! Our deer are not quite as brave, of course, there is that small matter of the dog barking at the top of her lungs in the window. lol
ReplyDeleteWhen our dog was outside with us and not on a leash, the deer quickly left the scene, but if he was on the leash and not barking, the deer and the dog just had a friendly stare down. :-)
Deletewow Pat, this makes me want to be there! Lovely writing! Nice to connect here again! zoe ( it doesnt wsnt to let me sign in)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Zoe. I'm hoping to show up more often on this blog hop.
DeleteAhhhh! This soothed me. Happy I read it on a Sunday! Just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI think we all need to feel soothed and peaceful, and it is especially nice on a Sunday.
DeleteUnfortunately, I think dogs very quickly discover them.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I take enough time, and not even five minutes, to observe. I love it. When I was in Florida last week I was stunned by the sounds of birds singing in the morning. It's a song I don't hear at all in the winter and I take for granted in the warmer months.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had taken more time to listen to the sounds of the birds when I was a child. It is rare to even see some of those birds now due to land development and the clearing of brush, etc. from along fence lines and water ways, and clearing of timber. I'm glad that you listened to the birds when you were in Florida.
