To some he was considered a friend and not to be feared if he and others of his kind came around. There were a few who went out of their way to make sure he had a comfortable place to hang but not everyone was as obliging.
He couldn’t understand why when he was quietly zipping along doing his job, a few girls would scream if they caught sight of him.
Was he really that different? Perhaps if he wasn’t always in such a hurry . . . or got a day job . . . , it would be different. The last time he tried to follow a crazy flash of insight like that, someone found him acting more than just a little batty.
Bats are among my favorite creatures, no screaming here when i see them. In fact, when i visit the zoo, i spend about an hour at the bat house.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I have never spent an hour in the bat house at a zoo, I have interacted with them in various ways when I had to enter a dark barn when I was a kid, not to mention other encounters I have had with them as an adult. Knowing of their great works, makes me more appreciative of them.
DeleteI love bats. We need them. Such a well done Six!
ReplyDeleteA favorite park in our vicinity has put up many bat houses through the park. Such a good idea.
DeleteGood one! The bat having a day job :)
ReplyDeleteOnce in a while we will see one during the day, but they are usually barely visible snuggled under a shingle or between two shed doors.
DeleteSo creative! I just love the way you have showed us, and not told us. Excellent six!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Violet.
DeleteNot a Bat Fan. We had them in the attic; what a mess! $3500 later, all was well. But I was about to go bat s#!@ crazy!
ReplyDeleteOh, my! Bats in abundance in an attic sounds awful and very expensive to remove and clean up.
DeleteHa ha! Makes me think of a day back in 1987. . . :-)
ReplyDeleteI remember it well!
DeleteWhat a cool SIx.
ReplyDelete(Part of the fun was getting drawn in right at the start... so, what is this character and then the punchline.)
Thanks, Clark.
DeleteCute Six :) but I just can't seem to warm up to bats, lol. I watched a program on tv years ago about the bats that live under a bridge in Austin, Texas and swarm out at dusk, like a million of them!
ReplyDeleteI would not like being anywhere near that bridge as they swarm out. It would be fascinating to watch from a distance though.
DeleteOh my! LoVe this story and how it drew me in.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Glad that you liked it.
